I have always hesitated to ask. I suppose I don’t want to be disappointed if I am told “no” or turned away.
God wants us to ask.
He promises that if we ask Him, we won’t be turned away.
Jesus teaches us to “Ask, and you will be given what you ask for. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened. For everyone who asks, receives. Anyone who seeks, finds. If only you will knock, the door will open.” (Matthew 7: 7-8)
When you ask, God gives you what you ask for. If you ask for something that will hurt you, God gives you what you need.
When you seek, what you find may surprise you. It may not be what you expected, but when you seek you will find.
When you knock, the door will open to you. God may ask you to step through it, but it will not block your way.
The important thing is that you ask.
Christianity is not a passive religion. Ours is a living God, not a dead one.
Don’t be afraid to ask God anything. God will give you what is good and what you need.
According to Jesus, “If a child asks his father for a loaf of bread, will he be given a stone instead? If he asks for fish, will he be given a poisonous snake? Of course not! And if you hard-hearted, sinful men know how to give good gifts to your children, won’t your Father in heaven even more certainly give good gifts to those who ask him for them?” (Matthew 7:9-11)
I pray that I learn to ask God for the things I need. I pray that I have the wisdom to seek until I find. And finally, I pray that I have the courage to knock, knowing that the door will be opened.
